Since 2011, Tatuaje has introduced a special cigar each year for the Tobacconist Association of America (TAA). TAA members form an elite group of the industry’s top tobacconist specialists, and are given exclusive access to offer their customers special cigar projects such as this.
Every year (with the exception of 2013’s TAA 10th anniversary cigar), Tatuaje has unveiled the same TAA blend in varying vitolas. This is a special blend that is said to be a mixture between Tatuaje’s popular Pork Tenderloin and Barclay Rex blends. This special TAA blend utilizes a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper over an all-Nicaraguan filler/binder. For the finishing touches, Tatuaje TAA is then box-pressed and showcases an extended (shaggy foot) wrapper.
Beginning in 2015, Tatuaje began re-releasing the TAA cigars in the same order they were originally introduced. E.g., 2015’s TAA cigar was the same size and blend as the legendary 2011 Tatuaje TAA, 2016 was the same size and blend as the 2012 Tatuaje TAA, and now, 2017’s release features the same size and blend as the 2014 Tatuaje TAA cigar. This size weighs in at 6” x 52, falling squarely between the 2011 and 2012 sizes. As such, the Tatuaje TAA 2017 cigar offers perhaps the most balanced version of this special blend, showcasing rich complexities of fresh earth, cocoa powder, black pepper, sweet chocolate candy, and espresso.
